Back to School!

Hi, friends! Happy September!
Leaves, apples, pumpkin spice lattes! I can barely contain my excitement!
Hope your back to school time is going swell!
We are in week 5 and I am just coming up for air!!!

My last update was in July as I told you about how I was unassigned!
I am THRILLED to share with you that I am teaching KINDERGARTEN!!!!
I am just loving it! I am at a FABULOUS school, with a FANTASTIC team, and I have a DARLING class! I seriously could not be happier! Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers! God has a plan for our lives that far supersedes our understanding! God is good! We are thrilled to be back home in Atlanta with our family and friends! :)

Since I am now in Kindergarten {pinch me!} my new products will be geared toward the littlest of learners! :)

A few updates coming soon:

- I am working on an alphabet writing activity that will be posted on TpT shortly! Be on the lookout for a giveaway!

- I will be updating the Roll and Read {Fluency Phrases} packets with more pages...and phrases for each vowel letter!

- I will be doing a recap of sorts at the beginning of each month! I will be back shortly with a recap of August. This is my first year back in Kindergarten after teaching first grade for four years... I am jotting notes down about units, when I introduced certain activities, etc. I want to use this blog to help me remember - haha - and to hear your input about when you introduce certain tasks with your Kinders!

Summer Update

Happy summer from the South! Hope everyone had a marvelous 4th! Can you believe summer is half way over?! July means classroom setup! June is still easy breezy...full of beach, lake, and pool days! But, JULY?! It means business!

I have taken a break from blogging because...we have been preparing for our move back to Georgia from Sweet Home Alabama! We will miss our awesome Bama friends and neighbors! I am also leaving behind a fantastic school filled with the sweetest parents, kiddos, and some of the BEST teacher friends a girl can have! We are so excited to be close to family and friends again after living in Bama for 6 years!!!

The hubs got a great new job in Atlanta and I had a Kindergarten position at a fantastic school! But...don't you hate the but?

I don't know what school or grade level I will be teaching this school year!  I am sort of having heart palpitations just typing it!!!! Of course, with Kindergarten, we know comes the numbers game! I have played this game for many years! I taught Kinder in Georgia for two years and in Alabama for two years! In Alabama, I was the newest hire and both summers it was touch and go all summer to see if we would have the numbers for me to stay! The third summer I was lucky enough to have a chance to loop up to first grade with my sweet class, and I jumped at the chance! No more numbers game....sign me up!
Alas, here I am again in the same boat! After nine years of teaching {four in Kinder and five in first grade} I am back at the mercy of numbers!
However...I have made a list of the positives and negatives...just in case some of my fellow Bloggers find themselves in my predicament!

{POSITIVES}
*I have a job! I have signed a contract and will be placed...eventually! :)

*I can't change themes, which will save me money! I was all about changing my theme...I have been a jungle theme for four years and was itching to switch! But...because I won't find out my grade level or school until the week of pre planning, there ain't no time for that!  This saves me some serious cash!

*I can't work over the summer! This is a hard one for me...but sort of refreshing if I can distract myself with my Nook, shopping, Pretty Little Liars on Netflix, etc! This is the first summer that I have not been printing, laminating, cutting, etc! It is a nice break {so I tell myself! ;)}

{NEGATIVES}
*I can't work over the summer! Hahahahaha! I had to! :)

*The unknown! Eek! So scary the places my mind will go! I just pray, pray, pray! Every time I get anxious about it, I pray that He will place me where I am needed most and that there will be kiddos in my class that I am meant to teach next year!

Is there anyone that taught Kinder/first grade for several years and then moved to another grade? Like fifth? Just preparing myself! Please tell me your grade changing story! Please!!!

So, until then...I will be filling up my new planner! There is nothing more I love than a fresh new planner with brand spanking new Flair  pens! Ahh! This is a renewed obsession after I took a brief hiatus and tried to go new age and keep a Google cal.  Last year, I was all about Erin Condren, but as much as I adored it, it was too big to carry in my purse and I ended up leaving it at school or at home...and well that defeats the purpose of a planner.

 I am loving the Lilly planners this year! They have four sizes {this is the medium} and it is only $22.00. Score! It is big enough to have not squeeze your writing, but small enough to drop in my bag and go! LOVE!!!!!!

Have a great week, y'all! xoxo

Place Value {Quick Tip}

Hey, long lost blog friends! Hope everyone has had a fabulous spring break and a blessed Easter!
We are in the home stretch now!!!!

Here is a quick change that I implemented this year and it has made a WORLD of difference with my firsties understanding of place value! I saw this tip on Pinterest many moons ago, but when I went back to try to find the source, I didn't have it pinned and a quick search left me empty handed. If you know who to credit, let me know!

Instead of using straws to count the number of days in school, use place value tens towers and ones cubes! Is that not GENIUS?!

Even though we don't formally explore place value until late winter/early spring in first grade, the kiddos see ten ones cubes being traded for a ten tower on the 10th day of school! By the time we started studying place value, they had seen this trade about 10 times! I swear, y'all, it has made the BIGGEST difference in my firsties understanding of place value!

Easy change, big impact! LOVE!

My favorite Place Value resource is from Cara Carroll - check it out!

Have a great week, y'all!!

Roll and Write {January} Giveaway!

Happy 2014, friends! Hope you had fun ringing in the new year {if you stayed awake ;)}!
I just LOVE the new year!! The fresh new start, the goal setting, the organizing!!! I am SO like Monica on friends! Organizing makes me HAPPY! I even have a 'Monica closet' in my house! Did you see the episode of Friends where Monica has a locked closet and they all try to get in to it…only to find that is stuffed FULL of stuff! My house is neat…but be careful opening the Monica closet under my stairs…things may fall on you! :)

I am SO excited that is fiiiinally Juanuary! Can't wait for this new season!

And in other news, I just started watching Revenge on Netflix and I am OBSESSED. Where have I been???????????

With the new year comes new products! One of my all time favorite items in my classroom is DICE! You may have caught on to this with my Roll and Read and Roll and Graph units! :)
Next in the line up is Roll and Write

Around this time of year, I feel like Work on Writing in Daily Five is getting a little stale!  My kiddos are very comfortable with the nonfiction can-have-are graphic organizers in my Write On! {Nonfiction} Graphic Organizers and Paper. They are comfortable with the Opinion graphic organizers and all of the writing papers used in our units of study in the fall.
I like to introduce a lot of new materials to use in Work in Writing spring semester…but nothing too complicated or that requires a ton of directions! Roll and Write fits this bill!

Spice up your writing time with Roll and Write! All you need is a die, a color or black and white copy of the Roll and Write January page, and a Roll and Write printable writing paper.
Your kiddos will roll the die and write about what they rolled.

This activity pack includes:

6 picture cards {3 black and white, 3 color}

6 sentence starter cards {3 black and white, 3 color}

7 writing pages {1 graphic organizer, 3 with handwriting lines, 3 with regular lines}

Comment below with your favorite soup and your email for a chance to win one of three copies of this unit! I am all about some soup these days!
We are delayed two hours in the morning due to the 'Arctic Blast!'
I am off to watch another episode of Revenge! :)
